Montana ENERGY STAR® Appliance Rebate Program

The U.S. Department of Energy awarded the Montana Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) $928,000 to launch an ENERGY STAR® Appliance Rebate Program. The program is intended to stimulate the economy by encouraging consumers to replace older, less-efficient appliances with new, more energy-efficient ENERGY STAR®-qualified models. The replacement of older appliances saves families money, helps protect the environment, stimulates the economy and creates jobs.

  • The DEQ has approved the following appliance types and rebate levels for ENERGY STAR® units. Rebates will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis until program funds are expended.

Rebate Eligibility Program Rules:

  • Rebates will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis until the allocated program funds are depleted. First-come, first-served status will be determined by the date the application arrives at the rebate fulfillment center.
  • Purchaser MUST be a Montana residential consumer, supplying a home address for installation; neither business customers nor business installations are eligible for rebate(s).
  • Households (single addresses) are limited to two rebates, and the rebates must be for different types of appliances.
  • Purchase must be made during the rebate offer period.
  • Only ENERGY STAR®-rated refrigerators (7.75 cubic feet and larger), clothes washers, freezers and dishwashers are eligible. Qualifying units must be listed on the ENERGY STAR® Web site: www.ENERGYSTAR.gov.
  • Rebates are only available for the replacement of existing units with new qualifying appliances.
  • Rebates must be postmarked within 30 days of purchase.
  • Purchase must be made from a Montana retailer. Online sales are not allowed.
  • Sales receipts need to indicate the retailer name, address, purchase date and price, product make and model.
  • Consumers are required to recycle their old appliance by either allowing the retailer to haul away the old appliance or taking the appliance to a recycling center or approved landfill/transfer station themselves.
  • Rebate forms must be completely and accurately filled out to be processed.
